My College Hockey Preseason Rankings

Alright I’ll be quick and to the point with this one. I am going to be posting college hockey rankings throughout the season. 1-10. None of that ridiculous 20 team nonsense. The best ten teams in the nation.

  1. Boston University
  2. Denver
  3. Providence
  4. Minnesota
  5. Harvard
  6. Penn State
  7. Notre Dame
  8. Quinnipiac
  9. Wisconsin
  10. UMass Lowell

First off, very weird to do a preseason top-10 and not include Boston College. BC has been arguably the best college hockey program in the nation since the year 2000. But after losing a ton of talent to the NHL, unfortunately had to leave them out.

Next thing I will probably get shit for is putting BU ahead of the National Champions, Denver. I’m a guy who believes you will only go as far as your goalie takes you and if anyone can put the team on his back and carry them to a National Championship it’s sophomore tendy Jake Oettinger. BU also with some big name recruits coming in this season (surprise, surprise)

I’m sure i’ll hear it about leaving St. Cloud State off the list as well as loading it up with Hockey East teams. The Hockey East is the best division in all of college hockey and it’s really not even close. Obviously the NCHC is legit and the emerging Big10 as well. But lets be real here the Hockey East is loaded every year and has some of the best coaches in all of college hockey.

Harvard at No.5 was kind of a tough choice. Did Jimmy Vesey coming on Spittin’ Chiclets and telling the boys that Harvard is basically never going to be bad again affect my decision? Probably. But he’s right. Harvard has solidified themselves as a top program in the country and with Teddy Donato behind the bench, I don’t see them falling off any time soon.

If two of the teams on this top-10 are playing at the Xcel Energy Center in April for the Frozen Four, I’ll be satisfied and we can chalk this blog as W.
