Report: Bruins “Among Front Runners” For Steven Stamkos

After a weekend where Bruins fans expected fireworks, Monday morning’s news that Bruins are among top teams interested in Steven Stamkos gives fans sparklers.

Former Tampa Bay Lightning GM Brian Lawton joined TSN1050 in Toronto Monday morning to talk about the Steven Stamkos sweepstakes when the NHL Network analyst mentioned the Boston Bruins as one of the “front runners” to land the biggest name on the free agent market, Steven Stamkos.

Lawton also mentioned the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Tampa Bay Lightning as potential landing spots for Stamkos, coming to no surprise for NHL fans.

Don Sweeney told reporters at the NHL Draft this weekend that his team would inquire about the 26-year-old Center this off season, who will hit unrestricted free agency for the fist time in his career this off season and is expected to have a cap hit between 10-12 million per season.

Stamkos has only scored less then 25 goals in a season once in his career, his rookie year and would instantly make the Bruins a contender in the Eastern Conference. But with Brad Marchand up for an extension and Torey Krug still unsigned, don’t expect to see Stamkos dawning the Black & Gold next season.
