Huge Changes Coming to TD Garden

Mall, Bowling Alley, Grocery Stores and More to be Added to Boston Garden

“After months of tweaks and alterations, the first phase of Boston Properties’ (NYSE: BXP) expansive Boston Garden project this week cleared a major hurdle by receiving design approval from the Boston Civic Design Commission.

When fully built out, Boston Garden will be a 1.87 million-square-foot mixed-use development with a residential tower and an office tower sitting atop a multi-level podium connecting North Station and TD Garden to Causeway Street.

The project’s first phase is a $285 million steel-and-glass podium named “Champions Row.” Beyond creating a transportation hub for North Station commuters as well as crowds at TD Garden, the “Champions Row” podium is slated to include a Star Market grocery store; a 20,000-square-foot sports bar that can hold up to 500 patrons; a 50,000-square-foot entertainment venue that could seat up to 1,000 people; a movie theater; a bowling alley; and additional retail space.” (www.bizjournals.com)

Boston Properties announced this week that the Boston Civic Design Commission has approved their design for a “1.87 million-square-foot mixed-use development with a residential tower and an office tower sitting atop a multi-level podium connecting North Station and TD Garden to Causeway Street.”

The first phase of the project is a $285 million steel and glass podium, named ‘Champions Row’, fitting right? Champions row will include a 20,000 square foot sports bar, a 50,000 square foot entertainment venue that seat 1,000 people, a bowling alley, a movie theater, a Star Market grocery story and much more.

Adjacent to North Station, is a TD Garden Parking lot, a 2.8 acre lot where the old Boston Garden use to stand, is where this new development will take place. Boston Properties has also told bizjournals.com, that they are working with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority to find a covered connection to the North Station MBTA stop.

A mall, a movie theater, a bowling alley, an apartment building and a grocery store will be added to the TD Garden. Though, the Bruins aren’t trending in the right direction, at least the Garden is, right?
